Description:
The NC State Highway Patrol is attempting to identify the owner of a firearm found in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Gaston County. A member of the Patrol assigned to Gaston County stopped a vehicle on NC 274 on March 3, 2023 for a traffic violation. During the course of the stop the trooper had probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, a rifle was located inside the vehicle. The driver disavowed the weapon. A check of the serial number was conducted but the weapon had not been reported stolen to any law enforcement agency. Troopers seized a black Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15 Rifle.
